Coach Andy Shipp

Andy Shipp has been playing volleyball since he can remember. He continued the sport at the University of Tennessee where he played on the varsity team (pictured top right #3), trained under National YMCA Hall of Famer Bud Fields, founder and coach of the UT volleyball team, and later competed in the national open volleyball championships in 1980 (finished 13th) and played in the senior USAV finals in 1989 (pictured bottom right #12, finished 2nd). His passion for the sport didn’t stop there. He continued to play volleyball indoor and outdoor into his late 50’s. When Bud Fields passed away in 2020, Andy received a call shortly after for an opportunity to coach middle schoolers to play the sport. He took it as a sign from Bud and now gets to carry on the legacy of teaching kids the volleyball skills he learned and the sport that gave him so much joy throughout his years.
